Discover South Orange
Village through The Historical Gems Of South Orange House
Tour on Saturday, May5, 2007 sponsored by the South Orange
Historical and Preservation Society. This year’s tour
celebrates an eclectic array of architectural gems found in
all of the neighborhoods in our Village.
Best accomplished by car, this self-guided tour is from
11am to 4PM. Tour goers can begin the tour at the parking
lot of the South Orange Library or in the municipal lot
behind the South Orange Village Hall located at the rear of
the building. South Orange Village Hall is located at 101
South Orange Avenue, at the corner of Scotland Road.
Settled in 1680, South
Orange is steeped in history. The homes selected for this
year’s tour depict the progression of our town’s development
from farming village to bedroom community. The residences
showcase a cross-section of architectural styles and
vintages.
The tour strives to go
beyond the bricks and mortar - giving visitors a flavor of
the people who have inhabited the Village through centuries.
Participants are encouraged to read the “house-stories” of
residents from years past and embrace a connection to each
unique neighborhood. Once again, noted design professionals
have agreed to lend their unique flair to enhance our many
featured homes’ ambiance.
The South Orange
Historical and Preservation Society will have available:
historic postcard, vintage reproduction village maps from
1887 and 1904 and light snacks available for purchase.
Advance tickets are available
for $20.00 and 25.00 on the day of the tour. Please no
strollers or children under 12. Babes in arms welcome. For
