The Old Stone House
Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund
Capital Preservation Grant, Level II
Grant Award:
$6,413 (2001); $154,943 (2002) Grant Recipient:
South Orange Historical and Preservation Society
Essex County South Orange Old Stone House is the oldest structure in the
Village of South Orange and one of the oldest in Essex County.
Of archaeological interest for the incorporation of a possible stone
structure, the building is architecturally significant as a
distinguished 19th-century residence with an unusual stylistic
evolution.
Vacant for many years, roof deterioration and water damage have weakened
the house. The Trust grant will fund the structure's stabilization and
prevention of water penetration.
This grant funded construction documents necessary to plan the
structure's stabilization. |
