Dear Ms. Hayden,
Warmest
greetings and thank you for reading. It was a great pleasure to speak
with you a few days ago concerning the Fosse Collection and your
background on Mr. Fosse along with your thoughts on the current status
and future potential of these wonderful materials. Your insights and
help are all the more appreciated.
At
the present time the boxed materials (nothing has been unpacked as of
this writing) are located in the EIES of New Jersey building adjacent to
the South Orange Public Library in South Orange, New Jersey. A majority
are located on the first floor in a specially designated storage area
that shares room with a number of spare library books and some
additional boxes are situated on the top floor. Unfortunately, the
building conditions are not the best in terms of climate control and
accessibility to researchers at the present time. In addition, the
primary focus of this collection is broader in scope from a national
perspective and is outside of our collection area. Therefore, the South
Orange Historical Preservation Society is looking at various alternative
solutions with your approval.
We
are thinking that if it would be possible to find a suitable repository
we can gladly have the materials ready for transfer. The leads you
mentioned might be a better fit and would work well. In addition, if
there is no interest on the part of another library or archive, we would
like to have permission to sell portions of this collection in order to
create and endowment for the Society to help in local preservation
initiatives. Any thoughts on these main ideas will be most welcome.
I
will be most happy to engage in a follow-up discussion at some point in
the near future. My phone number is – (973) 275-2378. For now, thank
you very much for your review and consideration. Have a nice day and
best wishes.
Sincerely,
